Arrival Day

Today was my first day in Berlin! After an entire day of flights, I finally made it to TXL at 7:30 this morning. After arriving at the hotel, taking a nap (which we were not supposed to do ... whoops), and showering, we headed into the city at around 4:30 pm.

Our first stop was the Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer (The Berlin Wall Memorial), a historical site which documents the events leading up to and surrounding the construction and eventual demolition of the Berlin Wall, as well as the historical impact of the wall and its effects on the people of that era.

Across from this was a park where you could see parts of the Berlin Wall and a small cemetery.

Then this evening we went to the Prater Garten for dinner, where I got maiskolben mit butter, obazter mit laugenbrezel, and a prater pils.

Afterwards, we headed back to the hotel, stopping for gelato along the way. The weather was amazing and even though it was 8 o'clock at night, the sun was still out and shining. The streets leading back to the hotel were absolutely gorgeous, lined with little cafes, shops, and historic buildings.

From what I've seen so far, this city is beautiful and vibrant - I can't wait to see what the rest of Berlin has in store for me!
